Walnut Studiolo’s Leather U-lock Holster
Written by Urban Sherp on March 10th, 2010
Who: Walnut Studiolo – Portland, OR
What: Leather Bike U-lock Holster
Where: etsy.com – $49
Why: We thought we were the only ones completely frustrated by the dysfunctional mounting brackets for bike u-locks. Our lock barely fits within the frame of our bike and we’ve wasted far too much time fumbling with it that we begrudgingly hang the lock off the bike handle or let it rattle around in our bike basket – not ideal…
That is until we came across this oh-so-dapper solution from Geoffrey Franklin, a bike enthusiast and founder of Walnut Studiolo. He created a handy leather holster designed to fit the contours of the u-lock and easily attach to a rear mount bike rack. There are two leather straps to secure it in place, and as we were worried, this would be too pretty to leave unattended, but it is also secured with two flat head screws so its not easy to steal.
The holsters are hand-finished, hand-stitched in Portland, Oregon and made with up-cycled leather scraps from a local factory, so no two are identical. Available with a flap for more of a saddlebag look, or as pictured displaying the thick stitching.
The perfect little pocket for your lock.
