Recycled Glass Necklace for the Beach Inspired Wedding

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Who: Kate Aiello – Kennebunkport, ME

What: Recycled Glass Necklace

Where: etsy- $100

Why We Love It: We completely smitten with this eco-modern interpretation of the classic pearl necklace (we never could pull off pearls).  The perfectly imperfect recycled glass beads remind us of sun-kissed days spent on the beach in search of those precious pieces of sea glass that had washed ashore…  Love the simple elegance with the slightly frosted tumbled glass strung on a pure white satin ribbon. Oh, just absolutely perfect for the beach-loving bride! Click to continue »

Shimna’s Liffey Bed – Rustic Sophistication

Monday, March 15th, 2010

shimna_liffey_bed_icff

Who: Shimna – New York, NY

What: Liffey Bed

Where: Shimna – $3000 & up

Why: We first discovered Shimna at last year’s ICFF show and were instantly taken in by Liffey Bed. They somehow manage to create rustic pieces that are refined, elegant and modern. The Liffey Bed is a cross between a captains bed and a platform bed – maximizing otherwise lost space beneath the bed by inserted four angled drawers concealed underneath so as not to compromise the sleek spartan profile of the platform bed.

The headboard is made from one gorgeous slab of walnut that exposes all the natural beauty of the wood grain – which is really the focal point of their designs. Click to continue »

Walnut Studiolo’s Leather U-lock Holster

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

leather_ulock_bike_holsterWho: Walnut Studiolo – Portland, OR

What: Leather Bike U-lock Holster

Where: etsy.com – $49

Why: We thought we were the only ones completely frustrated by the dysfunctional mounting brackets for bike u-locks.  Our lock barely fits within the frame of our bike and we’ve wasted far too much time fumbling with it that we begrudgingly hang the lock off the bike handle or let it rattle around in our bike basket – not ideal…

That is until we came across this oh-so-dapper solution from Geoffrey Franklin, a bike enthusiast and founder of Walnut Studiolo. Click to continue »

Finding Ponoko – The World’s Easiest Making System

Monday, March 8th, 2010

ponoko_laser_projectsThis past weekend was all about getting organized, rifling through my stack of catalogs, magazines, tear outs, business cards, the whole hot mess that had slowly been taking over my desk. And I am an organized person, but lately have had way too much on my plate to stay on top of things. But I digress. In my fit of OCD, I found the page I tore out of Lucky Magazine with the name of the website where you can make, share, sell or buy laser cut templates, designs or kits (this is the site I referenced on my post about my favorite DIY sites…    It’s PONOKO!! Such a relief, has been driving me nuts that I couldn’t remember the name of it and now I can stop racking my brain to find it. Click to continue »

Maine Float Rope Company’s Durable, Eco-friendly & Colorful Doormats

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

maine_float_ropes_doormatWho: Maine Float-Rope Company – Waldoboro, ME

What: Down East Doormats

Where: Maine Float-Rope Company – Large $79.95 & Medium $49.95 (see more purchasing information below!!)

Why We Love ‘Em: Penny Johnston is one of our new heroes (and as a fellow Mainer, we couldn’t be more proud!) When she saw neglected barns left for ruin, she salvaged the boards and turned them into spectacular tables. When she saw a need for stone, instead of mining for granite she worked with local Mainers to reclaim stones from abandoned fields and quarries. So it was no wonder that when she learned that Maine lobstermen were being forced to replace their float ropes with more expensive silk ropes she found a practical, economical and environmentally friendly solution.  That just ‘Mainers being Mainers’….. Such an unexpected mix of materials, with the gold roadrunner, the brass rings, the chunky crystals and the vintage beads. Fun – with a vintage roadrunner charm dangling off the clasp and yet still incredibly sophisticated. Click to continue »
