Colorblocked Cutting Boards

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Who: Lostine – Philiadelphia, PA

What: Colorblocked Balloon Cutting Board

Where: Anthropologie – $128-$248

Why We Love It: So yes, paying $248 for a cutting board is a bit excessive, nonetheless, we are ‘pining’ for these colorblocked cutting boards (sensing a DIY project is in order). These high quality boards have that heirloom quality–like they were found in an old farmhouse beneath a fresh baked loaf of bread. Meticulously handcrafted in Philadelphia from locally sourced Sycamore trees, they are colored with a food-safe milk paint that gives it that yummy hand dipped feel. The final finish is a food-safe mineral to protect the integrity of the wood.

If you are will to splurge on one of these eye pleasing boards, they are certainly worth displaying whether on the wall or as a serving board. Built-in leather handles and cut-outs make hanging easy–helps with drying too!

Heath Ceramics Neutra House Numbers

Monday, March 21st, 2011

Who: Heath Ceramics – Sausalito, CA

What: House Numbers, Neutra & Eames

Where: Heath Ceramics – $45/each

Why We Love It: Heath Ceramics has been enjoying a renaissance since the reigns were passed on to Robin Petravic and Catherine Bailey in 2003. They revitalized the collection without comprising on classic style, quality or integrity of the original Heath Ceramics founded by Edith Heath in 1948. Her iconic Coupe collection of dinnerware hasn’t changed, it’s all still made in the US, in the same factory, with the same methods and techniques by the same hands who have been firing, glazing and molding Edith’s ceramics for decades and creating a timeless product. They still use clay bodies that require only one firing as opposed to the more typical two firings, which is a much more economical and energy efficient way to go.

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Who: Celapiu – Cracow, Poland

What: Braided Ears

Where: Etsy – $42

Why We Love It: So yes, we are a wee bit smitten with Oeuf’s collection of animal hats and tails, and yes, we know that are meant for wee ones, but they are so cute! So when we saw this more appropriate grown-up version by Celupui, we were delighted!  Braided ears, that aren’t quite as obvious as a fox’s hat, but they’ve exude that same sense of fun and whimsy in a modern, sophisticated  way. Where: Harriet & Leo – $70

Why We Love It: Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia by Elizabeth Gilbert chronicles the author’s trip around the world after her divorce, and what she discovered during her travels. Love or hate the movie version, we’ve taken some inspiration from Julia Roberts character’s, relaxed boho style and throw back to hippie chic fashion.

We particularly loved the woven belt by accessory designer, Jenny Krauss featured in a scene in Eat, Pray, Love. Click to continue »

Modern, Eco-friendly Garden Planters

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Who: Greenform - Santa Monica, CA

What: Twista

Where: Nova 68 – $580

Why We Love It: These modern planters are made of natural, 100% recyclable fiber cement that contains cement, powdered limestone, cellulose, synthetic fibers, water and air making them a lightweight and more eco-friendly alternative for traditional concrete planters.

They are handmade in Switzerland and each is dated, numbered and tagged with the name of the person who actually made it which is a nice touch with all the autonomous mass-production out there.

The design, by Austrian Architect Martin Mostboeck, is simple yet stunning with a slight twist that’s particularly cool when the multiple planters are placed side by side. Such a dynamic look. They’re designed for outdoor use (they can handle frost and heat) but are great for indoor use as well. Availabe in anthracite and gray.
