Who: Lauren Pierce by Lauren Bush

What: Tulia Skirt

Where: At select Barney’s – $485 (although we had no luck tracking it down…)

Why: Lauren Bush (yes, the niece of George W. – who would have guessed he’s got an environmentalist in the family?!) has launched a venture into the world of eco-fashion and this skirt is one of our favorites. And we are now obsessed with her modern take on the ikat/tie dyed trend. The volume of the skirt and the high waist give this skirt a demure flirtiness. The Lauren Pierce collection debuted in 2009, and is made using environmentally friendly fabrics that are of the highest quality as well as handcrafted fabrics from artisans around the world. The Tulia Skirt was hand-dyed using non-toxic dyes. For each season, Lauren teams up with a different non-profit to promote humanitarian efforts as well by donating 10% of her profits to the cause and by teaching lifelong skills to communities in need. For the Spring 2009 collection, she partnered with Women for Women International which teaches women in the Democratic Republic of Congo how to hand-dye fabrics.

Lauren is also the co-founder and CEO of FEED campaign to provide food to children in need. She designed the iconic FEED bags whose sales go to the cause that you can now find at your local Whole Foods. The purchase of these reusable bags supports
