Stainless Steel Popsicle Molds for Cool Summer Treats

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

Who: Onyx

What: Onyx Popsicle Mold

Where: Amazon – $39.95

Why We Love It: Finally feels like summer has arrived here and the Northeast, and what better way to stay cool on a warm summer afternoon than with a delicious homemade popsicle? Ohh, takes us back to days in Mexico where this street vendor made the best mango popsicles loaded with fresh fruit, soo good…

Replace your old plastic popsicle molds with a durable, BPA-free, stainless steel mold from Onyx. These guys really know their popsicles and have designed their molds so that you can easily remove, and refill, one popsicle at a time. The silcone rings ensure proper stick placement, so no more worries about tilted, sunken or popped out sticks. All you need is to get creative and find some yummy recipes to test out. (Here’s 50 to get you started from TipNut).

Each set comes with one stand, 6 molds, 6 lids and 12 removable silicone rings.

Also thinking of upgrading to stainless steel ice cube tray to keep the BPA out of my drinks!

Fair Trade Cambodian Scarves

Who: Lotus Jayne – Montclair, NJ

What: Red Checked Kroma Scarf

Where: Lotus Jayne – $9 for small in red & $12 for blue (Update: Lotus Jayne just received a new shipment of scarves, so the red one is back!.)

Why We Love Them: We are totally smitten with spring and summer scarves. Not only is it the answer to surviving over A/C-ed buildings, but it’s also the female equivalent to the tie and a great way to spice up an outfit by adding color, texture and pattern. This red-checked scarf brought to us from Cambodia by Jill Kimball of Lotus Jayne is absolutely one of our favorites.

It is incredibly versatile and is the perfect compliment to any outfit. We’ve worn ours with dresses, jeans, skirts, stripes, prints, blues, whites, jackets, tanks, vests, the whole gamut and it works with just about everything. And best yet, the purchase of this scarf supports artisans in regions of the world like Cambodia, where this 100% cotton scarf is hand-woven by fair trade collectives supporting these struggling communities. And by wearing this scarf you can share the story of the Kroma Scarf:

During the Khmer Rouge regime of the 1970′s, brutal dictator Pol Pot made the checked kroma the national scarf for the tyranny that led to deaths of over a million Cambodian people. Today, however, the cotton kroma has been defiantly reborn as an optimistic symbol of a bright future for the Cambodian people. In Cambodia today, you will see the krama worn by everyone and used in every conceivable way, not only as a stylish accessory but also as a grocery-sling, doll, cart pull — the krama’s uses are endless.

Monkey Bed’s New Urban Blanket Bags

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Who: Monkey Bed – Newton, MA

What: Urban Blanket Bags

Where: Monkey Bed – The Esplanade $135 (see also the smaller Seaside $79) (These bags just went public today, so there may be a few kinks to work out with the online store)

Why We Love It: As fellow Bostonians, we know that when you catch a glimpse of sunshine, you’ve got to get out and take advantage of it. Optimizing that precious park time generally involves cramming water bottles, snacks, frisbees, books, electronics and a bulky blanket into a cumbersome bag so, that by the time you get out the front door, that is if the sun is still out, you look like you are going on a camping trip instead of a casual jaunt to the park… Click to continue »

chester_wallace_6pack_toteWho: Patrick Long; Portland, OR

What: Chester Wallace Totes

Where: Canoe; $95 in white, $125 in brown & grey; more color options available soon at Stand Up Comedy

Why We Love ‘Em: Maybe it is the Mainer in us, but we totally dig these bags. They’ve got that rugged  ‘I belong on a fishing boat’ look and yet have an inherent hipness. In an adorable boutique filled with enviable fashion pieces, this was the item that caught our eye -  a canvas tote of all things. But this is not your standard-issue tote. Click to continue »

stainless steel wineglassesWho: RSVP International; Seattle, WA

What: Endurance Wine Glasses

Where: Cooking.com – $21.95 for a set of 2

Why We Love ‘Em: Two of our favorite things, brushed stainless and wine,  all wrapped up in one!  We have lost many a wine glass to the dishwasher, over-agreessive ‘cheers’ and the inevitable spill. So we thought what could be more eco-friendly than a durable chip-free stainless steel wine glass?

Great for picnics, pool parties or as your everyday wine glasses, they are tough enough for any dishwasher yet are incredibly light in weight and appearance. Click to continue »

Manhattan Green Cruiser

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Who: Manhattan Cruisers

What: Manhattan Green Cruiser

Where: That cannot be right, only $199? I might just need one…..

Why: Oh, my The Manhattan Green Cruiser. If my beloved bike ever breaks down, after I say my tearful farewells, I will run out and buy myself the Manhattan Green……the price tag of $199 is a deal for a well designed, sleek and stylish bicycle. And you have got to love their ad campaign right now: “Why Fight It? Ride it. For about the price of two barrels of oil, You Can Go Green! Save some Green, Ride the New Green!” I think I will, I’ve always been a sucker for marketing.
