DIY Chevron Curtains

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

Still suffering from my obsession with chevron, and likely will be until I’ve got something chevron in the house. But finding just the right one has always been a challenge (ask my brothers about my tendency to only so slightly over-research…. ). That’s why I love this DIY project from Green Your Decor. A simple DIY chevron curtain.

Simple materials (duck cloth, measuring tape, painters tape, paint brush and low-VOC paint), simple instructions (measure – okay this may be the complicated part…, tape, paint) and you can customize to suit, thick stripes, thin stripes, multi-stripes. Of course this well take a little calculating.
Definitely a fun summer project!

Chair Upholstery 101 V.6 – So Close

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

Second to last class in the Eliot School’s Upholstery class. There is an end in site but still a lot of details to take care of before the project is complete. The second to last class was hugely successful, tacked in the sides, welted along the back, got the metal pli stapled in, cut, centered and tacked in fabric for the back…. still much more to go and the clock is ticking. Only one more class left and I’ve got a cushion and a whole lot of double welting to do… Click to continue »

Chair Upholstery 101 V.4 – Taking Shape

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Finally my stripped down chair is beginning to take on its old shape. Layers of 100% cotton batting and foam and more cotton are the makings for one cushy chair. All those staples I spent hours removing, are now being put back in place in abundance.

I had a hard time finding eco-friendly, chemical free foam and cotton. A majority of the batting on the market is a polyester blend and even 100% cotton batting is hard to find, but I can tell you it feels some much nice and breathes so much easier than the synthetic blends. If you are looking for more eco-friendly batting options on the market, here are some alternatives: Kyoto Bamboo Blend Batting Queen, Soy Soft Soy Blend Batting and Warm & Natural Cotton Batting. You may pay a little more, but it’s worth it! Click to continue »

Finding Ponoko – The World’s Easiest Making System

Monday, March 8th, 2010

ponoko_laser_projectsThis past weekend was all about getting organized, rifling through my stack of catalogs, magazines, tear outs, business cards, the whole hot mess that had slowly been taking over my desk. And I am an organized person, but lately have had way too much on my plate to stay on top of things. But I digress. In my fit of OCD, I found the page I tore out of Lucky Magazine with the name of the website where you can make, share, sell or buy laser cut templates, designs or kits (this is the site I referenced on my post about my favorite DIY sites…    It’s PONOKO!! Such a relief, has been driving me nuts that I couldn’t remember the name of it and now I can stop racking my brain to find it. Click to continue »
