Innovation & Art in the Mi Chair

mi_chairWho: Giovanni Pagnotta; Brooklyn, NY

What: Mi Chair

Where: hive Modern – $680 w/free shipping in the US

Why We Love It: Such a cool organic and fluid feel to this futuristic chair by Giovanni Pagnotta – almost appears more like a liquid than a solid with those graceful curves.  Made of a 100% recycled thermoplastic (derived as a byproduct of natural gas processing),  this innovative design is as much a piece of art as it is a functional design. Available in ultra white, orange glo, dark graphite, and hyper green,we can imagine grown-ups and kids alike clamoring to claim this seat as their own.

Designer Giovanni Pagnotta is a graduate of the Parsons School of Design and the Yale Graduate School of Architecture. He has been working with carbon fiber to test the limits of the material and to see just how far he could manipulate it the material in a way that defies standard furniture design, much as Panton did with his Panton – S Chair, the result was something completey unique. Unlike most works of this nature, Pagnotta has kept production of the Mi Chair stateside wehre he works with a small fabrication company.
