What is the Urban Sherp? Urban Sherp is both a shopping guide and a lifestyle guide showcasing products that are both ecologically conscious and feature good modern design from the world of fashion, home décor, electronics and green building, all with a green slant. We understand that given the current environmental and economic climate consumers want to make more educated purchases and consume less overall. But it can be quite a challenge finding green products that won’t compromise your aesthetic, that is where Urban Sherp comes in. We do the ‘sherping’ for you, spending hours, days, months searching for products that we think you’ll enjoy and that you can feel good that your purchase is an investment in the future (spoken like a true shop-a-holic!). We do our best to evaluate each product and highlight how each is green using our eco-icons indicating if an item is organic, vegan, recycled and so on. So you know when you see a product on the Urban Sherp you know you are getting a product that is cool, unique and different and that it has an element of green.

How do you find the products featured on Urban Sherp? We eat, sleep and breathe green design. We discover cool green products all over the place from trade shows, conferences and expos to boutiques big and small to schools and studios. We peruse magazines and surf the web, all to find what we think are quality products that also happen to be green. Our ears are always open because you where your stumble upon your next find.

Do companies pay to be featured on Urban Sherp? No, we simply showcase products that we think are cool and interesting. Often they include products that we use, own or just dream of owning!

Well then, how does Urban Sherp make money? We generate revenue from advertising (and, we must say, we’ve got some pretty interesting ads up here–we’d be clicking if we could!).

I love featured product ‘X, Y and/or Z,’ where can I buy it? Often people cite price as the limiting factor in making green purchases. So we do our best to find the best prices on the web for the products that we showcase. Of course, prices change and items sell out, so although we publish where to buy these items, we cannot promise prices or availability. Periodically, we will update entries if we find better prices or note when items have sold out. We would love to hear from you if you find the items on sale for less than the price listed!

Why should I subscribe to the newsletter? We know that most of you are inundated with emails, tweets, pings etc. and nothing is worse than being multiple pages behind on your correspondence. That’s why we keep our newsletter short and sweet. Think of it as an email from a friend sharing with you his/her latest cool new find, no need to even respond!
