Experiencing the High Line First Hand
Written by Urban Sherp on February 19th, 2010
I finally got a chance to visit the High Line Park in New York and it was more impressive than I had anticipated. On our last day in New York, my husband and I got up early to squeeze in a visit, and even on a brisk morning, it was magical. We felt completely transported, elevated above the hustle and bustle and honking of morning rush hour to float above it all in a peaceful oasis. Moms were out walking their babies, joggers were enjoying a run without dodging traffic, commuters chose to take the scenic route, workers were laying the foundation for the next segment of the High Line, and my husband and were soaking it all in.
I was prepared to be wowed by the work of the architects of Diller, Scofidio and Renfro who put together innovative design for a new kind of public space while incorporating historic references to what the Highline once was. But, what I didn’t expect were the amazing views of the city – both the buildings that surround the High Line and the port that borders it. The design is absolutely stunning, so many little sitting areas, and nooks seamlessly incoporated into the landscape. Can’t wait for warmer days when we can take advantage of the benches, and sitting areas scattered about.
If you are in New York, this is a must see!

I went on the skyline when I was in New York and it was the most amazing place, I used to work in that area 2 years ago and wish it was around then! Its definitely one of the ‘have to go’ places in New York and couldn’t believe how quite it was when slightly raised up from street level!
Great post!
