Uber Modern Leander Convertible Crib

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

leander_bed Who: Leander; Silkeborg, Denmark

What: Convertible Bed

Where: Mon Petit Bijou – $1650 (Special Order), available in white, espresso and natural

Why: This is no ordinary crib – it’s kind of like the Rolls Royce of cribs, no the Tesla of cribs… and equally as hard to track down. Designer Stig Leander Nielsen literally and figuratively thought outside of the box by dissolving the hard angles and corners of traditional cribs and creating a cozy little oval nest. The smooth moulded European beech bent to create the soft sloping curves and the rounded ends -  perfect for curling up in for a long hard day of play… Click to continue »

IglooPlay’s Multifunctional Tea Pods

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

iglooplay_podsWho: Iglooplay; Brooklyn, NY

What: Tea Pods

Where: 2modern -  $565 for the small pod, $1115 for the medium pod & $190-245 for the trays, free shipping on orders over $100

Why We Love ‘Em: Recently, our two little nieces came for a visit, which was awesome, but our home is far from baby-proof and we braced ourselves for the inevitable ‘ouwy.’  The culprit? The sharp corner of our coffee table,  fortunately recovery was swift. But it did get us thinking about a design by Iglooplay that we had seen a few months ago that would make a cool ‘corner-free’  coffee table. We have long wrestled with debate of ottoman vs. coffee table, but with the Tea Pods we’d get the best of both worlds. Click to continue »

Why We Love ‘Em: Fully adjustable, versatile and durable, the Babylon High Chair is a chair that will grow as your child grows all the way through their teens since it is strong enough to support the weight of a 250lbs adult! The seat and the footrest can easily be adjusted to nine different positions -no tools required- to accommodate all sizes so that your child can sit comfortably at any table even one as low as a coffee table.

And unlike standard high chairs that distance the child from the table, the Babylon High Chair gives your child a place at the table (of course, if you would like a little more distance between you and a flying bowl of cheerios, there is an attachable tray available…..)  This is sure to be a piece that will have a place at your table for years to come.

bo_design_changing_tableWho: Bo Designs by Bo Ekstrom, Sweden

What: Wall Mounted Changing Table

Where: SpunkySprout.com , $750. Add the Diaper Caddy for $150. Or contact the distributor, Ameico, directly.

Why: Perfect for a room short on space, this clever fold up changing table pops open easily to cradle your little one while you take care of little messes. Made of sleek bent FSC certified wood, the table folds up nearly out of site with its’ slim profile.  The water based laquered finish is so smooth to the touch and the curves so sculptural that whenclosed, the table seems more like a work of art than a utilitarian piece.

Argington’s Inspired Organic Crib Bedding

Monday, May 18th, 2009

argington_butterfly_and_sticks1

Who: Argington; Brooklyn, NY

What: Butterfly, Sticks & Buds crib bedding

Where: Bobby Berk Home, $195, includes reversible comforter cover, 2 fitted crib sheets (natural) & 1 pillowcase. Also available in a boy’s (or girl’s) Dinosaur print, $195 for the set.

Why: Sweet and modern can go hand and hand as in this design from Argington. This design begs a second look – at first glance you have a delicate pattern in pink and vanilla (too creamy to be called white), but upon closer inspection a klaidescope of butterflies and twirling twigs and buds emerges. (The Dinosaur set looks like a Rorschach Test from afar, but a close-up reveals a quartet of brontosaurus.)

The Tripp Trapp Highchair by Stokke

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Who: STOKKE; Ålesund, Norway

What: Tripp Trapp High Chair

Where: AllModernBaby.com $249.99 w/free shipping and the Baby Bungalow $249.99 w/free cushion, Lime & Orange on sale for $219.99!!

Why: Inevitably each time I dine with my lovely young nieces, I end up with one of them on my lap sharing my meal and conditioning my hair with a mixture of corn, peas and mashed bananas….and I wouldn’t trade it for the world, but it did get me, and clearly the designers at STOKKE, thinking that kids really want to be at the table-they want to be in on the action, not set apart in some giant plastic contraption. Psychologists likely have some fancy terminology for the importance of baby being with family at meal times, but I digress………Enter the Tripp Trapp from STOKKE , a thoughtfully designed highchair that grows with your child, from 6 months old all the way to adulthood–it’s true, I’ve tried it! This is a design that considers the lifetime of a product and challenges our disposable society-returning to an age where products were built to last and built of quality sustainable materials.
