Active Apparel for the Nature Lover

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

Who: Lolë – Montreal, Canada

What: Syrah Tunic

Where: Lolë – $70

Why We Love ‘Em: Move over Lulu, there’s a new girl in town–Lolë, a ‘gal’ who shares our passion for nature and an active lifestyle and, in 2002, created a fashion label to follow suit. So it’s about time we met starting with the Syrah Tunic.

Perfect for hopping from bike to brunch to the game or for tossing in a suitcase for a last minute trip. It’s got a flattering shape–hello ruching and cinched waist–and comes complete with a neon reflector to help keep you safe while on the road. Plus, it’s made from a sport-friendly blend of blend of organic cotton, Tencel™ and elastane that’s naturally anti-bacterial, odor inhibiting, and naturally wicking so you’ll look and feel fresh no matter where the day takes you.

Mini-Mason Pendants

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

Who: LBL Lighting

What: Mini-Mason Pendants

Where: Lumens.com – $220-$340 LIMITED TIME ONLY! Get a free Bird Café Feeder with any LBL Lighting purchase of $300 or more through May 31 with coupon code LBL.

Why We Love ‘Em: For those who appreciate the traditional, and love the modern these seemingly liquid glass pendants are the perfect blend of both. Taking cues from the iconic mason jar, the outer glass shade is rich in color that is only enhanced by the light-diffusing opal glass cylinder that shields the light bulb within. The combination of cool colors, soft light, and organic glass will provide a sense of calm to any room.

Handcrafted in Illinois, these pendants are available in a variety of assembly options–track ligthing, ceiling mount, etc.–to suit your space. Of course, we’d recommend the LED bulb option to maximize energy savings!

A Lunch Bag for Men

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

Who: Meriweather Field Gear

What: Frost River Lunch Bag

Where: Meriweather Field Gear – $25

Why We Love ‘Em: Guys take their lunches to work too, yet there aren’t many “manly” options out there. As much as we might love a Rebel Green tote, a Tiffin set, or a Planetbox, they might not exactly inspire the boys to pack a lunch for the road. So, we can see how a guy might go the take-out route in lieu of toting pink polka dots to the office, or say, his wife’s Lululemon bag which we literally just witnessed on our way into the office…

But he may think twice with Meriweather’s Frost River Lunch Bag. Handmade in Duluth, Minnesota from an all-weather, waxed canvas, these bags are built to handle the roughest of jobs sites be that a construction site, a classroom, or the boardroom. Add a no-nonsense leather closure and you’ve got a bag that puts the ‘man’ in lunch tote and might make a trip to the office feel a little more adventuresome.

Wooden Transformers

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Who: tweek by David Weeks Studio

What: Areaware Cubebots

Where: Amazon – $21.86 & up

Why We Love ‘Em: A toy that combines modern lines and sensibility with old-fashioned appeal… who wouldn’t love it? These wooden robots move like their plastic counterparts, but their warm wood and appealing little faces make them toys you don’t mind having scattered about in the family room.

Made of beechwood and cherry, each of the three bots (Julien, Guthrie or Cubebot) folds down into a compact 2.5×2.5 cube. Unfolded they measure 8 inches high, and 10″ wide (arms extended). The robots can be manipulated in more than 100 poses – that’s at least 100 hours of fun!

Topeak Rear Bike Basket

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

Who: Topeak

What: Topeak MTX Rear Bicycle Basket

Where: Amazon – $28.40

Why We Love ‘Em: This rugged metal basket is the trunk of bicycle baskets. No, it won’t be the new storage place for your golf clubs, but it can transport a watermelon with aplomb! As well as groceries for two, large Zappos returns, the occasional suitcase repair, stacks of library books, and spring plants complete with potting soil. With a carrying capacity like that, you’ll think twice about taking the car on local errands! Plus, it can withstand rain, snow, and the occasional spill.

Pair it with the Topeak Explorer Bike Rack.

Naya’s Summer Sandals

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

Who: Naya – New York, NY

What: Tatiana Sandal

Where: Nordstrom – $134.95

Why We Love It: When it comes to shoes, comfort and style should not be mutually exclusive, and Naya’s Tatiana gladiator sandal is the perfect example of how to achieve both. Featuring a trio of colors (love the coral
!) in a geometric basket weave pattern, these comfy t-strap sandals–thank you oh so cushiony sole!–have just enough heel for a flattering lift without compromising walkability–yes, ladies, walkability–so you can walk all day or dance all night. Truthfully–but not recommended–they make you feel like running.

Naya puts sustainability at their core using natural and eco-friendly materials whenever possible as evidenced by the use of vegetable tanned leathers, a cork and rice husk outsole, a cork footbed, and a bamboo heel–just a few of the eco-friendly materials found in the body of this shoe. In addition, they have partnered with Souls4Souls to provide shoes to those in need and to divert shoes from landfills.

*Note: Naya kindly sent us a set a pair of Tatiana shoes to take for a spin, and we’ve been quite pleased! But, we assure you this in no way influenced or swayed our review. As always, we are honest in our opinions and reviews of the products featured on Urban Sherp.

Tegu’s New Prism Pouches

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

Who: Tegu – Rowayton, CT

What: Tegu Magnetic Wooden Blocks

Where: Tegu.com – $30 (Available in natural, tints or jungle)

Why We Love ‘Em: So, yes, these magnetic wooden blocks might be designed for child’s play, but we have yet to meet a grown-up who could resist their magnetic charm. Whether toyed with on their own or in combination with the original Tegu blocks, this six-piece set stretches the imagination so you can create more intricate shapes than with square blocks alone. The handy wool felt carrying pouch makes it ideal for travel, as well as an entertaining companion for coffee tables and office desks.

Parents and eco-conscious consumers will appreciate that these blocks are crafted in Honduras using FSC-certified hardwoods with non-toxic, water-based finishes, and that a portion of the proceeds of the sale of each Tegu product is used to send a Honduran child to school for a day or plant a tree–your choice! Planet-friendly, people-friendly, and fun? Now that is a business model worth building on…

*Note: Tegu kindly sent us a set of prism blocks to test out, and we haven’t put them down since! But, we assure you that we were not influenced or swayed by this gift in our review of these blocks. As always, we are honest in our opinions and reviews of the products featured on Urban Sherp.

Sleek Bike Storage Shelf

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Who: Knife & Saw – San Francisco, CA

What: The Bike Shelf

Where: Knife & Saw – $249-$299

Why We Love ‘Em: If you–like us–park your bike in your house and not in this magical cavernous place know as a garage, then you best do it in style and mix in a little ‘multi-functionality’ for good measure.

Recognizing a void in the cool bike storage department, graphic designer Chris Brigham resolved this gap with a beautifully streamlined and clever design. A slide-in slot holds bikes flush against the wall while doubling as a handy shelf for gear, books, plants, or whatever else needs storing/displaying.

The Bike Shelf is available in ash, walnut, and hickory all with an–ahh–breath-easy zero-VOC Rubio monocoat finish.
