Why We Love It: Eco-luxe option for the bedding, this graphic floral is based on Indian block prints but evokes the simplicity of McKinney style prints. The white and silver is a sleek modern option for the bedroom and can be paired with a variety of colors from pops of red, gold, purple or pinks so it almost works as a neutral and can be tailored to suit your own color preferences.

It’s made of a GOTS certifed 200-thread-count organic cotton percale. West Elm also requires that their vendors sign a Code of Conduct to ensure that their suppliers employ ethical manufacturing practices and comply to the highest standards for safe, healthful working conditions that conform to local law and best industry practices. This includes, among other things, a prohibition against child labor, prison or forced labor, unsafe working conditions or unfair wage practices.

What: Wall Flowers

Where: Lorna Syson – £100 – £3999, in a variety of colors & sizes.

Why We Love It: These ‘Wall Flowers’ by textile artist Lorna Syson are anything but. We fell in love with the rich colors, the vibrancy and complete originality of these sculptural wall hangings. They truly are stunning.

Made of 100% wool, sued and silk, the textiles are screen printed or digitally printed with patterns designed by Lorna or in solid colors.  The petals are then laser cut and meticulously hand woven to create the 3-D form. One piece can take up to a week to create.

At ICFF, Lorna mentioned that her goal was to source an entirely sustainable collection by 2015. She has far surpassed that target date and will be presenting a completely ‘ec0-friendly’ collection at 100% Design in London this September – can’t wait!

Why We Love It: We can’t wait to get our hands on this new collection of throw pillows from Areaware. The patterns are just incredibly cool, modern and colorful and fun. In fact, we were so taken by the Zig pattern when we first saw it, (these prints were first introduced as a limited edition collection of teddy bears), that we just couldn’t resist and ended up convincing ourselves that, yes,  it’s totally normal for grown-ups to have teddy bears… Suffice to say we were psyched to see the patterns resurface in a collection of throw pillows. (Trade you a bear for a pillow?)

The lively fabric designs are the creation of Ross Menuez who has designed everything from a small airplane to costumes for Bjork and has collaborated with Areaware in the past to create the Fauna Collection (remember the onesies?). The covers are hand silk-screened on organic cotton canvas using environmentally friendly, soy-based inks and filled with a down insert.  The canvas is pretty heavy duty and quite soft.  You can also get your hands on these prints in the form of pouches and Tote Bags.

What: Zebra Rug

Where: Jonathan Adler – $995 in red, black, brown, baby blue or custom colors

Why We Love It: No zebras were harmed in the making of this rug. If you love the look of the zebra skin rugs, but could do without the animal cruelty, check out Jonathan Adler’s faux zebra rugs. They’ve got a great retro flare and and add a bold pop of color to any room. Fun conversation piece too.

The rugs are hand loomed in Peru from llama wool by weavers associated with Aid to Artisans, promoting international development through collaborations between designers and artisan groups.

We also love Merida Home’s collection of custom area rugs – great colors, great designs and high quality fibers.

Why We Love It: One of our favorite design teams returned to ICFF this year with the latest from their fabulous collection of eco-friendly wallpapers. Mother and daughter team Rebecca and Yvonne Drury create designs with a nod to mid-century modern but with a fresh color palette and a touch of whimsy. We are equally in awe of the high wattage metallic gold and orange print as we are with the sweet, soft pink and grey never looked so good in the grey with white – sensing an office remodel in the works….

MissPrint is an incredibly eco-conscious company.  All of their wallpapers are PEFC certified and are hand-printed in London with vegetable-based inks.

From the onset I thought this fabric from SeaCloth would be perfect ( but not the $120/yard price tag….. they were recently purchased by  Lee Joffa) or a chevron I saw from Rubie Green at$80/yard. Also considered Marimekko but their prints were just a bit too loud for me and ranged from $45-$96/yard. Of course, Mod Green Pod and Oliviera were out of my price range too….. Am obsessed with Vallila’s (2) amazing collection of modern fabrics – love the large scale of the prints and that perfect blend of beach modern that I am going for. And any of these pillow fabrics at Modern Chic Home would be fun fabrics for my chair!

Bon Bon Kakku – check this site out for some wild graphics that you can’t find anywhere else designed for the people by the people at 25 €/meter

Fabritopia – crazy cheap fabrics, sold by the half yard and some great prints, mostly cotton. this stripe is an option….

Ikea – (1) lots of modern prints available at incredibly low prices. also mostly cotton. (love the Kajastina in gray $5.99/yard! but out of stock in my area…

Harts Fabric -tons of cool prints here, great designer collections and great prices -they’ve got my chevron in aqua and white -too bold for the room though….

Fabric.com – has a huge selection of designer upholstery and fashion fabrics at pretty incredible prices. they also have a selection of eco-friendly and organic fabrics.

Fabricadabra – has some great Ikat fabrics and eco-friendly fabrics, $20-$50/yard. Wish some of their pillow fabrics were available by the yard.

Hawthorne Threads – gorgeous collection of fabrics from ‘indie’ designers. lovely color stories.

Jo-Anns – has a pretty large selection -was quite intrigued by their Sherwood Canvas Twills – super soft and durable…

Pink Chalk Fabrics – ‘fabrics for modern sewists’ has a lot of the same indie designers as Hawthorne Threads – great prices too.

Calico Corners – they’ve got a huge selection of great fabrics on average $15-$45/yard, but they usually have online coupons and often have in store sales, so you can get a better deal. They also stock a lot of the Thomas Paul fabrics that are so popular now (Mitchell + Gold has them and everyone is selling pillows made out of his fabrics.) Nice to go in the store for helpful guidance.

Why We Love It: Inspired by an original drawing by French architect, Viollet-le-Duc, the Lattice rug plays on geometries taking two missed matched grids and spinning them to create a unique and interesting pattern.  The cool blue and purple  tones have us dreaming of a beach inspired bedroom with crisp white linens, sheer wind-blown drapes and pickled hardwood floors with this all-natural, hand-knotted rug laid over it…

The Classic Rug Collection specializes in customized rugs, so you select the pattern, the fibers, the knot count and to create a carpet to suit your space. Their rugs are made from all-natural and eco-friendly materials like alpaca, banana plants, nettle, hemp, pashmina and wool dyed with vegetables dyes. The rug as shown is 100 knots and made of 50% nettle fibers 50% silk at a price of $90/sq.ft. This rug begs to be touched – the combination of the vegetable-dyed nettle and the silk creates a wonderful contrast of texture and color mixing the coarseness of the nettle with the glistening softness of the silk.

The rugs are hand-made in Nepal by a GoodWeave/RugMark-approved factory that is child-labor free.

Why We Love It: The very first tiny buds of our lilacs just appeared – our most favorite, and fragrant, harbinger of spring. Amenity pays homage to our beloved lilac with their Bloom Duvet Cover. The nature-inspired design gives a large-scale view of a lilac’s silhouette with layers of purple and grey tones for a regal and serene bedroom.

The cover is print on 300 thread count 100% certified organic cotton percale – which means that it will get softer and softer with each wash. The print is handprinted one at a time using non-toxic, eco-friendly, water-based dyes and they are sewn locally in LA. The cover has extra length so that it can be tucked neatly at the ends or, if you prefer, draped over the edge. Handy ties keep the duvet in place.

Why We Love ‘Em: Very exciting news – just heard from the gals at Mod Green Pod that they’ve added a new print to their collection of chic eco-friendly wallpapers, and ‘Delight’ may just be our new favorite. Love the colors and the mod/art nouveau graphics of this print. Now just need to convince the husband that this is just the look for the master bedroom… mmm, teal and grey!

‘Delight’ is available in three yummy color combinations – caramel/licorice, butter/coffee and water/peppercorn (pictured). As with all of Mod Green Pod’s wallpapers, they are hand printed on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper using water based inks and finished with a water-based glaze instead of the toxic PVC/vinyl that traditional wallpaper manufacturers use.
