Why We Love It: These ‘Wall Flowers’ by textile artist Lorna Syson are anything but. We fell in love with the rich colors, the vibrancy and complete originality of these sculptural wall hangings. They truly are stunning.

Why We Love It: We can’t wait to get our hands on this new collection of throw pillows from Areaware. The patterns are just incredibly cool, modern and colorful and fun. In fact, we were so taken by the Zig pattern when we first saw it, (these prints were first introduced as a limited edition collection of teddy bears), that we just couldn’t resist and ended up convincing ourselves that, yes,  it’s totally normal for grown-ups to have teddy bears… Suffice to say we were psyched to see the patterns resurface in a collection of throw pillows. Why We Love It: One of our favorite design teams returned to ICFF this year with the latest from their fabulous collection of eco-friendly wallpapers. Mother and daughter team Rebecca and Yvonne Drury create designs with a nod to mid-century modern but with a fresh color palette and a touch of whimsy. We are equally in awe of the high wattage metallic gold and orange print as we are with the sweet, soft pink and grey never looked so good in the grey with white – sensing an office remodel in the works…. Initially, I was convinced I’d be able to find cool and affordable organic or eco-friendly fabrics that would be suitable for my project. Not so – most that I found were pretty plain or $80/yard or more and for a first time upholstery project, this was not an option. I also discovered that there is a lot of hideous upholstery fabric out there. This has been an all consuming search and am embarrassed to admit that after a solid 3 months, I have yet to find the right fabric.

From the onset I thought this fabric from SeaCloth would be perfect ( but not the $120/yard price tag….. they were recently purchased by  Lee Joffa) or a chevron I saw from Rubie Green at$80/yard. Also considered Marimekko but their prints were just a bit too loud for me and ranged from $45-$96/yard. Of course, Mod Green Pod and Oliviera were out of my price range too….. Am obsessed with Vallila’s (2) amazing collection of modern fabrics – love the large scale of the prints and that perfect blend of beach modern that I am going for. And any of these pillow fabrics at Modern Chic Home would be fun fabrics for my chair!

Bon Bon Kakku – check this site out for some wild graphics that you can’t find anywhere else designed for the people by the people at 25 €/meter

Fabritopia – crazy cheap fabrics, sold by the half yard and some great prints, mostly cotton. this stripe is an option….

Ikea – (1) lots of modern prints available at incredibly low prices. also mostly cotton. (love the Kajastina in gray $5.99/yard! but out of stock in my area…

Harts Fabric -tons of cool prints here, great designer collections and great prices -they’ve got my chevron in aqua and white -too bold for the room though….

Fabric.com – has a huge selection of designer upholstery and fashion fabrics at pretty incredible prices. they also have a selection of eco-friendly and organic fabrics.

Fabricadabra – has some great Ikat fabrics and eco-friendly fabrics, $20-$50/yard. Wish some of their pillow fabrics were available by the yard.

Hawthorne Threads – gorgeous collection of fabrics from ‘indie’ designers. lovely color stories.

Jo-Anns – has a pretty large selection -was quite intrigued by their Sherwood Canvas Twills – super soft and durable…

Pink Chalk Fabrics – ‘fabrics for modern sewists’ has a lot of the same indie designers as Hawthorne Threads – great prices too.

Calico Corners – they’ve got a huge selection of great fabrics on average $15-$45/yard, but they usually have online coupons and often have in store sales, so you can get a better deal. They also stock a lot of the Thomas Paul fabrics that are so popular now (Mitchell + Gold has them and everyone is selling pillows made out of his fabrics.) Nice to go in the store for helpful guidance.
