Artists in Support of Haiti Relief

The earthquake disaster that struck Haiti has been heartbreaking, but we have been inspired by all the artists, designers and crafters that have rallied in support of Haiti donating their labor, their crafts and portions of their sales to support the relief effort. Through auctions, product donations and donations of sales,  they have found a way to raise money and awareness. If you have gifts to buy or if you are in the market for something for yourself, this is a great way to spend them support of Haiti as well as in support of the artist who created it.

If you would like to donate directly to the Haiti Relief effort, we suggest contacting the American Red Cross International Response Fund – there are sadly a lot of scammers out there, so this is the safest way to ensure your money goes to the right place.

1) The Craft Hope for Haiti etsy store has sold over 1,400 items already raising over $27,000 for Doctors Without Borders in Haiti to aid those in need of medical attention. Currently there are 180 products listed for sale on the site, with 100% of the proceeds donated to Doctors Without Borders. There is been such a tremendous amount of support from both buyers and crafters, that CraftHope is currently maxed out and not accepting donations at this time. If you have an item that you would like to donate to the cause, check back frequently as  I suspect they will be accepting donations again soon. Shop Craft Hope for Haiti.

2) IndieFixx, the hip lifestyle and indie art and design cool, is hosting a 10-Day online silent auction auctioning off items donated by indie crafters, artists, and designers with 100 percent of the proceeds donated directly to the Red Cross International Response Fund.  They’ve got an amazing collection of handcrafted goods from cozy scarves to baubles to one-of-a-kind artwork.  Hurry the silent auction ends January 28th!

3) Ashley Akers Jewelry is donating 50% of all sales from her etsy store through January 31st to the Doctors Without Borders Haitian Relief Effort. Her jewelry definitely has a unique look with her signature sterling silver saucers. All is handmade using sterling silver and various gemstones, pebbles, fiber and polymer clay.

4) Melissa Joy Manning Inc. is donating 10% of all online sales of their jewelry collection from January 1st to March 30th to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development Fund. MJM has also partnered with Lucky Magazine to donate $200 dollars to the Red Cross for every sale of their rainbow moon ring in sterling silver from January 22nd through March 2nd.

5) Booooooom.com is hosting their HELP HAITI Art Fundraiser featuring funky artwork from a wide selection of artists in support of the Haiti Relief effort. 100% of the proceeds of each sale will be donated to the cause.

6) i-tunes “Hope for Haiti Now” Album – This is a compilation album featuring 21 songs from the Jan. 22 “Hope For Haiti Now” telethon – so far the telethon and sales of the album have generated over $3 million for the Haiti Relief effort. And the album is outstanding – Justin Timberlake’s duet with Charlie Sexton of Hallelujah is heart-achingly beautiful. Great collection of songs by some of the greatest musicians of our time, and all in support of Haiti. $7.99.
Another way to  make charitable contributions through your everyday online purchases is through the website Spend for Good.  For every purchase you make through Spend for Good, a specified percentage of the sale will be donated to the charity of your choice at no additional cost to you. So the next time you are about to make a purchase online, stop by Spend for Good and get more for your money.

And just in time for Valentine’s Day. MJM’s designs rock!! Might have to nudge the hubby for Valentine’s Day – what better than eco-conscious jewelry that supports Haiti – to quote my sister in law “it just makes sense.”

Such a great idea – always feel better about my purchases when I know they support a good cause particularly the Haiti Relief Effort. Thanks for letting me know about these websites.
