What: Areaware Cubebots
Where: Amazon – $21.86 & up
Why We Love ‘Em: A toy that combines modern lines and sensibility with old-fashioned appeal… who wouldn’t love it? These wooden robots move like their plastic counterparts, but their warm wood and appealing little faces make them toys you don’t mind having scattered about in the family room.
Made of beechwood and cherry, each of the three bots (Julien, Guthrie or Cubebot) folds down into a compact 2.5×2.5 cube. Unfolded they measure 8 inches high, and 10″ wide (arms extended). The robots can be manipulated in more than 100 poses – that’s at least 100 hours of fun!

Where: Amazon – $28.40
Why We Love ‘Em: This rugged metal basket is the trunk of bicycle baskets. No, it won’t be the new storage place for your golf clubs, but it can transport a watermelon with aplomb! As well as groceries for two, large Zappos returns, the occasional suitcase repair, stacks of library books, and spring plants complete with potting soil. With a carrying capacity like that, you’ll think twice about taking the car on local errands! Plus, it can withstand rain, snow, and the occasional spill.
Pair it with the Topeak Explorer Bike Rack.
Who: Naya – New York, NY
What: Tatiana Sandal
Where: Nordstrom – $134.95
Why We Love It: When it comes to shoes, comfort and style should not be mutually exclusive, and Naya’s Tatiana gladiator sandal is the perfect example of how to achieve both. Featuring a trio of colors (love the coral
!) in a geometric basket weave pattern, these comfy t-strap sandals–thank you oh so cushiony sole!–have just enough heel for a flattering lift without compromising walkability–yes, ladies, walkability–so you can walk all day or dance all night. Truthfully–but not recommended–they make you feel like running.
Naya puts sustainability at their core using natural and eco-friendly materials whenever possible as evidenced by the use of vegetable tanned leathers, a cork and rice husk outsole, a cork footbed, and a bamboo heel–just a few of the eco-friendly materials found in the body of this shoe. In addition, they have partnered with Souls4Souls to provide shoes to those in need and to divert shoes from landfills.
*Note: Naya kindly sent us a set a pair of Tatiana shoes to take for a spin, and we’ve been quite pleased! But, we assure you this in no way influenced or swayed our review. As always, we are honest in our opinions and reviews of the products featured on Urban Sherp.
Who: Tegu – Rowayton, CT
Why We Love ‘Em: So, yes, these magnetic wooden blocks might be designed for child’s play, but we have yet to meet a grown-up who could resist their magnetic charm. Whether toyed with on their own or in combination with the original Tegu blocks, this six-piece set stretches the imagination so you can create more intricate shapes than with square blocks alone. The handy wool felt carrying pouch makes it ideal for travel, as well as an entertaining companion for coffee tables and office desks.
Parents and eco-conscious consumers will appreciate that these blocks are crafted in Honduras using FSC-certified hardwoods with non-toxic, water-based finishes, and that a portion of the proceeds of the sale of each Tegu product is used to send a Honduran child to school for a day or plant a tree–your choice! Planet-friendly, people-friendly, and fun? Now that is a business model worth building on…
*Note: Tegu kindly sent us a set of prism blocks to test out, and we haven’t put them down since! But, we assure you that we were not influenced or swayed by this gift in our review of these blocks. As always, we are honest in our opinions and reviews of the products featured on Urban Sherp.
