I wanted to write post sharing links on how you can find out about Earth Day events in your neighborhood, but I have been unable to find a comprehensive local guide let alone a national or global one. The site that claims to be the landing point for all things Earth Day (Earth Day International) only has 2 event listings for all of the United States! There are plenty of sales, deals and giveaways for Earth Day , but I don’t want to shop to celebrate Earth Day… Since when did Earth Day become synonymous with Consumer Day, anyways? I applaud getting the word out about green products and making them more affordable, but that’s not what this day is about. And yet, we’ll still publish our green deals and giveaways for Earth Day….
For the Boston area I did several searches and found a few events scattered about, but you’ve really got to work for it, go to over a dozen sites, track down their event listings and then hopefully find one that fits what you are looking for, unfortunately I don’t have the time to invest in the hunt right now. So will celebrate Earth Day in my own way – getting outside and enjoying the day, attending a lecture about the Tesla and biodiesel cars, cleaning up the trash that collects in our neighborhood, raking the side ‘yard’ and enjoying a locally sourced vegetarian meal.
And if you can’t find an event that suits how you’d like to honor Mother Earth, celebrate in your own way – give up plastic for a day, give up driving for a day, pick up trash in your neighborhood, go on a nature walk, enjoy the sunset, plant a tree……. Happy Earth Day!!
